What Ancient Greeks Knew About credit repair That You Still Don’t | Navesink NJ

The system of credit reports and scores in Canada is very similar to that in the United States and India, with two of the same reporting agencies active in the country: Equifax and TransUnion. (Experian, which entered the Canadian market with the purchase of Northern Credit Bureaus in 2008, announced the closing of its Canadian operations as of April 18, 2009).
It’s a new environment for me; being surrounded by people who aren’t doing poorly. I won’t be doing as well as those whose spouses can work as well as themselves, but my family will build back up, and be stronger for it.
Do not apply for several cards at the same time – Each time you apply for a new line of credit, a hard inquiry will appear on your credit report. Typically, a hard inquiry drops your credit score by five to 10 points, so you want to avoid applying for several loans within a short period of time.
There’s no quick fix. Improving your credit health takes time, but the most important behaviors can be summed up as this: Pay your bills on time (and if possible, in full) and reduce the amount you owe. It also helps to check your credit reports regularly and dispute any errors you see, such as a collections account that hasn’t been removed from your reports after seven years from the original delinquency date.
6. Choose credit cards carefully. People with excellent credit usually get the best credit card offers. But they’re smart about the cards they choose. For example, even though retailers often offer discounts on purchases when you sign up for their credit cards, these cards often have low credit limits, which can hurt your credit utilization ratio if you carry a balance on those cards.
I agree youcan live off if 22k and live good if you always kept your expenses in check and didn’t live above your means. If you don’t have a mortgage payment that’s a big chunk right that you’re not having to spend each month.
If a person gets an injunction to pay issued by the Enforcement Authority, it is possible to dispute it. Then the party requesting the payment must show its correctness in district court. Failure to dispute is seen as admitting the debt. If the debtor loses the court trial, costs for the trial are added to the debt. Taxes and authority fees must always be paid on demand unless payment has already been made.[18]
Payment History: Paying your credit card bills and making loan payments on time will positively impact your credit score. Missing payments, making late payments, or paying less than the minimum payment can hurt your credit.
As far as the “age of credit” factor goes, the only thing you could possibly do there is to piggyback on someone else’s card with a long credit history, but even then it’s not certain that you’d see an increase (especially if that person wasn’t a relative at your same address). And that strategy has risks – if they pay late your credit can suffer.

You can never ensure that but if they have the ability to check credit then they have been screened and informed of their duties under federal law. You can also monitor your credit scores each month for unusual activity. Here is how to get your free credit scores.
BBB reports on unauthorized use of the Better Business Bureau’s name and/or logo for as long as the business continues to use it in any advertising, or for one year after the business ceases any repeated unauthorized uses.
It is hard to get accurate late payments removed. Sometimes consumers will dispute them, and if they aren’t confirmed they will be removed. But even if they remain, over time they carry less weight. Please read: How Long Does It Really Take to Improve Your Credit?
And even more importantly, your 798 credit score is one of the biggest indicators of your fiscal responsibility, that’s why it’s very important to understand is it “good” or “bad“. Anytime you apply for a new loan or credit card, someone will be looking over your credit report. And you’ll even find that future landlords and employers will consider your credit before making their decision. The lower your credit score is, the bigger your risk of having to make a large deposit before getting a new lease or opening a new account. Your credit score could even result in lost job opportunities.
The average credit score in America falls just shy of the “Good” credit cutoff. According to FICO, the average score as of April 2015 is 695. This represents a high point for the past 10 years, and the scores have been climbing for the past two years.
That number is used to determine how creditworthy a consumer is—that is, how likely they are to pay their debts back on time. Most of these credit scoring systems use a scale that ranges from 300 to 850. However, there are some that also go up to 900 or 950, including industry-specific scores used by certain institutions.
3. Maintain low or no balances. People with excellent credit almost always keep low balances on their credit cards, and often don’t pay interest because they pay their balances in full every month, says Jason Steele, a credit card expert for CompareCards.com. In other words, they only use cards for things they can afford to pay off with cash, he says. To become disciplined with credit and avoid racking up balances, Steele recommends logging into your credit account online after making a purchase to pay it off. If you’re already carrying a balance, see How to Pay Off Your Credit-Card Debt in a Year for steps to pay off what you owe.
Even though it’s within the “fair” category, you can still do quite a bit in terms of loans. An FHA home loan, for example, only requires a score of 580 to qualify and take advantage of the program’s 3.5% down payment.
Although explanations and agreements were sent to the court, along with the fact that the Atty who was to do the work WALKED OUT OF THE FIRM WHEN HE SAW THEIR TREATMENT OF ME, a PARTNER, decided to send a bill 5x higher than was ever quoted (and again, NONE of the work was done.) Although there were documented phone messages left to return the calls, THEY NEVER DID. When a phone message was left for the CEO of the Law firm to return the call, HE NEVER DID. When faxes were sent to their Accounting Division asking for a breakdown on what and where this number came from, they only sent THE AMOUNT DUE WITH NO BREAKDOWN OR EXPLANATION.
Teddy you should make sure no one is using your SS#. I knew a woman that had similar issues like you and one day she ran her reports and found there was a 2012 Camaro on her report. Whomever purchased this car used her name and address and SS#. Strangely they were making payment for the past 5 months then stopped. Now she is fighting to get it off her name.
What are your grades for the other factors that make up your score such as mix of credit and inquiries? (You can find out here: get your free credit score). Debt ratio sounds pretty good but if it’s your utilization ratio then bringing it down a bit further might help, depending on the scoring model being used.
Court Judgments: A civil court judgment will be removed from your credit report after seven years from the filing date. When you pay the judgment amount, your credit report will be updated to reflect the status, but the notation of the judgment will remain for the full seven years.
Ulzheimer says his FICO credit score has hit 850 off and on for the past five to seven years. That achievement became easier once his credit history passed the 20-year milestone, he says. Yet Ulzheimer notes he hasn’t been striving for perfection with his credit score – he just knows the right behaviors for managing his credit well.
I have credit cards that have been compromised. The bank issued me new ones. My credit report has two cards, the two different numbers. The problem is they are the same account. My credit report lists them as two separate accounts. So it looks like I am in higher debt than I am. Does anyone know how to get the duplicate accounts removed? Thanks
It doesn’t matter what your credit score is these day . Mine is 715. I think it’s all biased ! I’ve been struggling for 14 years since my husband passed away & on a decent fixed income. I’ve never been late paying any of my utility, rent. or loan obligations needed to survive. I’ve purchased 2 cars, both were payed off a year in advance. I had to recently purchase a used car that turned out to be a lemon because I could not be approved for a new car because of my credit score. What ! They should change the point system. Not everyone wants to get in debt to get out of debt. I surely don’t. So much for freedom of speech & the home of the free. We are living under American communism ruled by capitalist. So how free are we? So much for what the American Flag stands for & what our forefathers came to America for to have a better life !
Both of these scoring models, however, use much of the same information such as the consumer’s payment history, the length and type of credit they have, the amount of their credit usage, and how many recent inquiries they have on their credit file. However, if the length of your credit history is not lengthy, then you may want to more closely monitor your VantageScore because a FICO Score will require a minimum of six months of credit history as well as a minimum of one reported account within the last six months.
Going forward, if you tend to carry high balances on your credit card accounts, then you may actually find that it will cost you more per month to carry these higher balances because the minimum amount due may be raised to accommodate for this trend.
That’s because credit scores are a snapshot in time, and can change with regular financial behaviors such as opening new credit lines or loans, paying off loans, taking on debt, and making on-time payments (or missing them) as time goes on. Those who have a high credit score will probably see their credit score change slightly if they apply for new credit, for example, when an issuer makes a hard inquiry on their credit report to check their creditworthiness. But take heart – when you have a high credit score, you’re more likely to be approved for that application anyway.
You want the percentage of your debt-to-income ratio to be lower. Otherwise a lender may look at a high number and immediately think you will be unable to successfully make any more monthly payments. You may then be considered a higher credit risk for them.
There is no secret recipe for building an 850 credit score. But there is indeed a playbook for putting yourself in the best position to achieve the highest possible credit score. It all begins with a credit card, as you’ll learn from the following:
I dated a girl many years ago that had 3 maxed out cards and over 12k in debt and every month she would get a new card in the mail. At the time I owned a business that had two 50k lines of credit, owned 2 cars, and received a small inheritance. I personally avoided the use of debt and credit. When I went to get a credit card (after years of personally avoiding them) I was completely denied because I didn’t have enough history. That is when I realized the game is about taking more then you are giving and promoting irresponsibility. Bad credit is better then no credit…

Scores by VantageScore are also types of credit scores that are commonly used by lenders. The VantageScore was developed by the 3 major credit bureaus including Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. The latest VantageScore 3.0 model uses a range between 300 and 850. A VantageScore above 700 is generally considered to be good, while above 750 is considered to be excellent.
Collection Actions: Collections are considered continuations of the original debt, so they will also be deleted seven years from the original delinquency date of the original account, which is when the account first became past due.
But things could also be a lot better. Scores lower than 630 are considered poor, so you might be denied for credit cards and loans or pay high interest rates for the ones you do receive. A low credit score signals to lenders that you’re more likely to default on your debts.
Credit cards and loans can affect your credit differently. Credit cards are revolving accounts whereas most loans are installment accounts. A mix of different types of accounts can be useful. Do you have any credit cards or loans now?
He attended college at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, thanks to scholarships, financial aid, Pell grants and work-study programs. He started as a math major, but that was too theoretical, he said. So he switched to philosophy and intended on going to law school. But when he graduated in 1978 and got a $10,000-a-year job at the Veterans’ Administration, he was so mesmerized by actually having money that he didn’t want to go back to school.
Be careful when opening or closing accounts. When you close an unused account, it can affect your credit utilization ratio by reducing your overall credit limit. In general, it’s a good idea to keep credit card accounts open, unless you’ll be tempted to use the card and increase your debt. Alternatively, applying for new credit can also impact your credit score. When you apply for credit, a hard inquiry is added to your account, which has a temporary negative impact on your credit score. (This is because too many applications for credit in a short period of time can represent risk to lenders.) The impact of hard inquiries fades over time, and they are totally removed from your credit report after two years.
Suggest that you avoid debit card. Get a secured credit card ( you pay a certain amount up front ) and pay it down 100% every month. You will start to establish a credit history. Most young people do not have bad credit, they just have no credit history. You can’t start off with a car loan, start off small with credit card and build it from there. Banks and credit rating agencies want to see a history of paying back loans, and income to support continued repayment of loans.
Considering these things, your credit score is one of the most important numbers in your life. It can affect every action you take, from the house you live in to the car you drive. Taking steps to improve your 798 credit score is the best way to save money and make your life easier down the road. There’s no excuse to not improve your credit score!
You can probably get a personal loan, but the interest rate might be 20% or higher, says NerdWallet personal loans writer Amrita Jayakumar. Some lenders — including Avant, OneMain Financial and Ascend — will consider applications from borrowers with 600 scores. Then there’s Peerform, a marketplace lender that matches poor-credit borrowers with investors who fund their loans, and Backed, which gives those with poor credit better terms if they have a co-signer, she says. “Lenders like Upstart consider college grads whose score may be low because of a thin credit file,” she adds.
When my ex left, she just left. She didn’t care about the credit cards, hardly asked about her daughter, and I had to change bank accounts just to stop her from taking money from me. I had no choice but to take all the debt on for both of us, as she wasn’t working on any of it (as far as I could tell).
For some outside perspectives on just how realistic reaching the top of the credit-score scale is and how fruitful of an accomplishment that would be, we posed the following questions to a panel of personal finance experts. Meet them and see what they had to say, below.
No matter what the average credit score of a state is, the underlying loan requirements remain the same nationwide. Loan rates are tiered, corresponding to credit score ranges, and so are down payments. The higher your score, the lower your loan interest rate and down payment amount will be. Besides your credit score, lenders will also take a look at other factors – your income, your debt and the down payment amount you are able to provide. Hope this helps!
You can take out a secured loan. That means you secure the loan with a savings account in the same amount. So, you put $1,000 in a savings and borrow a $1,000. The savings account pays for the loan and if you set it up on auto draft then you will never be late. Just make sure you include the interest.
