Many people out there have struggled through this “depression” and their credit scores have gone down. Yet they have managed to survive and pay their bills. They have paid late, because of loss of jobs etc. Its been reported that 75% of the country have a 620 score or below. An now they are being tagged as poor credit. They are the ones who struggled to stay out of foreclosure, or bankruptcy. You are the middle class who are the victims. Start calling your congressman and woman to change the Dodd Frank banking laws.
If you score is high enough on the GMAT to get into your top-choice graduate school, do you need to take the exam again in an attempt to raise your score further? Likewise, if your credit score is already excellent, what is the benefit of making it perfect and what would be the cost of doing so?
I have friends who believe that having everything paid for in cash and no credit cards or loans is the way to live, and yes, that would be ideal, but what happens when you suddenly need a line of credit to buy a home, a large purchase (appliances) or need to pay medical bills. You suddenly need a loan and lenders cannot know whether they can trust you to payback a loan without a history, and you may not be granted the loan.
Every person with a Swedish national identification number must register a valid address, even if living abroad, since sent letters are considered to have been delivered to that person once they reach the registered address. As an example, Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang got a Betalningsanmärkning since a car he had ordered, and therefore owned, passed a toll station for the Stockholm congestion tax. At the time, he was living in the USA training for his first Space Shuttle mission and had an old invalid address registered for the car. Letters with payment requests did not reach him on time. The case was appealed and retracted, but the non-payment record remained for three years since it could not be retracted according to the law.
We just love to be judged. Who decided the rules? The banks? The credit card companies? Screw all of them and pay with cash. Get in line sheep and baaah for your “credit scores”. After all, we are all just a number.
While the FICO score calculation doesn’t directly consider age, 15% of the score comes from the length of your credit history—putting younger people at a natural disadvantage. Likewise, 10% of the score is based on the mix of debt you have; it’s better to have a diverse mix—from a mortgage to student debt to car loans—than a single credit card. (And younger consumers are less likely to have a mortgage; the median age of first-time home buyers is 32, a report last year found.)
I have always……………had good credit. When you read the report is is in,very good. HOWEVER, 9 years ago, a greedy Atty, who sent a bill 5x higher than he said the cost would be, (and by the way never did the work!), waited 3 years until after he knew I moved out of state TO FILE A SUIT IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT.
Charging a higher interest rate for those with a low credit score seems punitive. On the surface, it looks like those who have a low score would be less likely to afford the loan, and ultimately less likely to build their credit score. But we have to remember: low credit doesn’t mean bad with money.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment growth for financial managers was predicted to increase by nine percent from 2012 to 2022, which is as fast as the average for all occupations (www.bls.gov). At a rate of five percent, growth is expected to be slower in the depository credit intermediation industry, which includes commercial banking institutions. The BLS reports that, as of May 2013, financial managers earned an annual wage of $126,660 on average.
I’ve read that keeping various cc’s in use (pay off every month it is used, and use quarterly) then this helps boost scores. When taking out new cc, know that it will lower your score for a month or two after. I’ve learned a lot from Suze Orman about this aspect of building credit. Today my score is 796.
These percentages are based on the importance of the five categories for the general population. For particular groups — for example, people who have not been using credit long — the relative importance of these categories may be different.
I love this question, because it allows us to discuss the underlying economic way of thinking about personal finance in general and credit scores in particular. In economics, we weigh costs and benefits and assume rational decision-makers will only choose to do those things for which the benefits exceed the cost. Further, we make decisions on the margin considering only the next choice, not all or past choices.
A typical day at wok included everyone constantly looking over your shoulder watching everything you do. I learned how to deal with difficult co-workers that expected me to do more work than humanly possible in 8 hours for horrible pay. The managers treated their employees like children. Some people that just got hired were making more than me and I was there for 4 years. Some co-workers were awesome people that would help with anything you needed and others used their seniority to their advantage to make you do their work for them. The hardest part of my job was dealing with the managers and upper level co-workers. The most enjoyable part of my job was the co-workers that would go above and beyond to help.
Most negative notations on your credit report will cease appearing in your credit history after seven years (although some may take longer). With hard work and determination, you can watch your credit score rise.
If the applicant is declined for credit, the lender is not obliged to reveal the exact reason why. However industry associations including the Finance and Leasing Association oblige their members to provide a satisfactory reason. Credit-bureau data sharing agreements also require that an applicant declined based on credit-bureau data is told that this is the reason and the address of the credit bureau must be provided.
Credit scoring is not limited to banks. Other organizations, such as mobile phone companies, insurance companies, landlords, and government departments employ the same techniques. Digital finance companies such as online lenders also use alternative data sources to calculate the creditworthiness of borrowers. Credit scoring also has much overlap with data mining, which uses many similar techniques. These techniques combine thousands of factors but are similar or identical.
On my 18th Birthday I went to Discover.com because I had seen promotions for it on TV and also noticed my parents used it on a daily basis. My mom loved her Discover card and they have had it for over 10 years. I was approved for the Discover IT Card with a $500 limit. Over the course of the next year they inceased my limit to $1,500. I was happy I was using it and reaping rewards left and right. I got greedy so I applied for the BestBuy Credit Card because I had worked there for sometime. Fast forward this along about 2 years later I had $3,000 in debt. I applied for 3 cards all on the same day and my limits were raised to $25,000 between all of my cards. I felt like the king. I had a Chase Sapphire Preferred card. It was metal! I was as cool as could be. Well I am now 21 I HAD a score of 780 and yeah its fallen to about 620. To this day I am working on paying my debts down by 0% Balance Transfer Cards but still paying my life away to banks and debt. Be smart about Credit and dont jack it up along the way. Credit runs this world we live in and without a near perfect score you will lose.

If a person gets an injunction to pay issued by the Enforcement Authority, it is possible to dispute it. Then the party requesting the payment must show its correctness in district court. Failure to dispute is seen as admitting the debt. If the debtor loses the court trial, costs for the trial are added to the debt. Taxes and authority fees must always be paid on demand unless payment has already been made.
In 2009, TransUnion representatives testified before the Connecticut legislature about their practice of marketing credit score reports to employers for use in the hiring process. Legislators in at least twelve states introduced bills, and three states have passed laws, to limit the use of credit check during the hiring process.
The interpretation of a credit score will vary by lender, industry, and the economy as a whole. While 640 has been a divider between “prime” and “subprime”, all considerations about score revolve around the strength of the economy in general and investors’ appetites for risk in providing the funding for borrowers in particular when the score is evaluated. In 2010, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) tightened its guidelines regarding credit scores to a small degree, but lenders who have to service and sell the securities packaged for sale into the secondary market largely raised their minimum score to 640 in the absence of strong compensating factors in the borrower’s loan profile. In another housing example, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac began charging extra for loans over 75% of the value that have scores below 740. Furthermore, private mortgage insurance companies will not even provide mortgage insurance for borrowers with scores below 660. Therefore, “prime” is a product of the lender’s appetite for the risk profile of the borrower at the time that the borrower is asking for the loan.

Although logistic (or non-linear) probability modelling is still the most popular means by which to develop scorecards, various other methods offer powerful alternatives, including MARS, CART, CHAID, and random forests.
With all of the scores listed above, the higher the number, then the lower the risk. With that being said, consumers with higher scores are more likely to get approved for credit than those with lower scores. Additionally, they also tend to get the best interest rates when they do. And they are more likely to get discounts on insurance. What is considered a “high” score depends on what type of score is being used.

If accounts are illegally reaged or if you have disputed them and they don’t get removed you may want to consult a consumer law attorney. You may have a case for credit damage, and in the case of a collection agency it may be a FDCPA violation as well.
I am frustrated with my vantage score 3.0. It dropped over 50 points in a week after I used a credit card to make a deposit. I only had the deposit held on there for three days, and it was only 2800 on a card with a 10000 limit. I have no mortgage and no car payment since I own everything. Why the drastic jump off one purchase?

Ultimately, what’s considered a good or fair credit score will depend on how the lender views it, but you can get an idea of how lenders are likely to view your applications by checking your score and seeing how it compares to others.

Ulzheimer says an 850 FICO score isn’t needed to gain the best interest rates or APRs on credit cards and loans. In fact, he adds, there’s not much difference in that regard between, say, 800 and 850. More than anything else, arriving at 850 merely gives you “bragging rights,” Ulzheimer says.
It takes a lot to maintain a high credit score, including low amounts of debt and on-time payments, just to name a few things. But one influencing factor might surprise you: where you live. A recent study by GOBankingRates used data from Experian to find the states with the best and the worst credit scores.
@MollyMcGuier What you mean by “Set the payment so it is auto drafted from your account and just make sure you remember to deposit the interest.” Are you suggesting to use the same money from the loan to pay it off? What interest is being deposited, and it is going back into that same checking account or into savings?
Teddy you should make sure no one is using your SS#. I knew a woman that had similar issues like you and one day she ran her reports and found there was a 2012 Camaro on her report. Whomever purchased this car used her name and address and SS#. Strangely they were making payment for the past 5 months then stopped. Now she is fighting to get it off her name.
Although there are many different credit scores, your main FICO (Fair Isaac) score is the gold standard that financial institutions use in deciding whether to lend money or issue credit to consumers. Your FICO score isn’t actually a single score. You have one from each of the three credit reporting agencies – Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Each FICO score is based exclusively on the report from that credit bureau. The score that FICO reports to lenders could be from any one of its 50 different scoring models, but your main score is the middle score from the three credit bureaus. If you have scores of 720, 750 and 770, you have a FICO score of 750. (And you need to take a hard look at your credit reports because those three numbers are considered wildly different.)
A professional litigation staff will provide expert attention to all delinquent accounts. If the debtor is in the same geographic area as the creditor, an asset search is conducted to determine the feasibility of litigation. When the services of an Affiliate or an attorney are required for a debtor outside of the creditor’s service area, noncontingent suit fees and costs must be advanced by the creditor.

A friend who worked at costco signed me up for an amex to boost her sign up participant numbers and there I was, 19, $10k limit amex. It ended HORRIBLY. I’m still making up for it five years later 🙁 At least you didn’t dig yourself a whole as deep as I did. Had I known the things I know now back then, I’d be in a much different situation. I totally agree that working at a bank forces you to look at your own situation and better yourself. I started working in retail and my paychecks normally went back into what ever store I was working at.
