A good credit score can also get you a lower interest rate when you borrow. That means you will pay less over time. For example, if you’re buying a $300,000 house with a 30-year fixed mortgage, and you have good credit, then you could end up paying more than $90,000 less for that house over the life of the loan than if you had bad credit. So, in the end, it really pays to understand your credit scores and to make them as strong as possible.
I have always……………had good credit. When you read the report is is in,very good. HOWEVER, 9 years ago, a greedy Atty, who sent a bill 5x higher than he said the cost would be, (and by the way never did the work!), waited 3 years until after he knew I moved out of state TO FILE A SUIT IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT.
Very similar beginnings you and I. The medical bills ALWAYS GET PAID LAST. Bro, if your at 639 I am sure you have learned enough to stop paying that $100 a month. Here is a trick to boost the score without adding debt and costing WAY less. Join a credit union. Do you own a car? it doesn’t matter… Join the CU and take out 12 month loans of $1500. Once you get the loan put it in the checking account and FORGET IT IS EVEN THERE. Set the payment so it is auto drafted from your account and just make sure you remember to deposit the interest. repeat the following year. If you can get a no fee credit card or maybe a $25 a year CC that you WILL BE ABLE TO PAY IN FULL EVERY MONTH. Use the CC like you would your check book. Balance and DO NOT buy what you do NOT need. Pay in full every month. WAIT! Want a free lunch? lol On that card it is a MUST to leave a small balance. The bank has to get something from you… Take the wife and kid to a fancy restaurant like WENDY’S…lol…. Try to carry a 60-70 dollar balance. Good Luck! my oldest just turned 18. I always worried about raising them, not letting them go.. Peace OUT!
Just how much your score is lowered depends on several personal factors, like how late you paid and how often you tend to miss payments. Obviously, if you are a regular offender, your score will suffer more.
There is no excuse to living paycheck to paycheck (save a terrible accident or terminal illness..), if you overspend, don’t budget, don’t plan ahead then it is YOUR fault that your credit score and life situation aren’t as good as they can be.
You say that,”our assumption is the arrogant one.” It’s clear that your assumption is, but you’ve used the first person plural, which indicates that you are not alone in your arrogance. Who is with you?
Collection Actions: Collections are considered continuations of the original debt, so they will also be deleted seven years from the original delinquency date of the original account, which is when the account first became past due.
2 Daily monitoring will notify you of certain new inquiries and derogatory information, accounts, public records, or change of address that have been added to your credit reports as reported by one of the major credit reporting agencies. If no information has been added or changed, then you will receive a quarterly notification stating that no information has changed within your credit file.
Keeping you informed of activity on the account assigned, with periodic status reports, is another feature of the collection process. In the event the account is in litigation, you will be informed of any meaningful activity. Status reports on specific accounts are always available upon request.
Where are you getting the scores? If it is a free credit score from Credit.com, it should have letter grades that show you which factors are helping your scores and which may be holding it down. That would tell you where to focus your efforts. It’s also a good idea to check your free annual credit reports
Credit scores look at your reported credit history to gauge the likelihood that you will repay borrowed money; you can be deep in debt and still have great credit scores if you have paid all your bills on time.
In Austria, credit scoring is done as a blacklist. Consumers who did not pay bills end up on the blacklists that are held by different credit bureaus.[4] Having an entry on the black list may result in the denial of contracts. Certain enterprises including telecom carriers use the list on a regular basis. Banks also use these lists, but rather inquire about security and income when considering loans. Beside these lists several agencies and credit bureaus provide credit scoring of consumers.
If you want a credit card, consider an alternative: “Consumers with poor credit scores — less than 630 — are generally best off with a secured credit card,” says NerdWallet credit card expert Sean McQuay. These cards require you to make an upfront deposit that serves as collateral in case you don’t pay, and they generally have an annual fee. A retail card is another possibility; some discount stores, in particular, might have lower credit score requirements than banks do.
I went through quicken loans for a refinance and my credit score got slammed and I got turned down double slam cause I don’t owe over a $100,000.,can’t win either way you go. From 725 down to 620,i’ll pay off what I have and the hell with this credit score crap and disappear and don’t give a dam what it ever becomes.
That’s because credit scores are a snapshot in time, and can change with regular financial behaviors such as opening new credit lines or loans, paying off loans, taking on debt, and making on-time payments (or missing them) as time goes on. Those who have a high credit score will probably see their credit score change slightly if they apply for new credit, for example, when an issuer makes a hard inquiry on their credit report to check their creditworthiness. But take heart – when you have a high credit score, you’re more likely to be approved for that application anyway.
Pavelka said he always managed his money well as a bachelor but did occasionally carry a credit card balance. When he got married in 1987, “my wife kind of kicked me in line,” he said. Today, he said his wife still has veto power over his “fun” purchases. He defied her once – when he bought his Harley in 2005. (“To her credit, her concern was more my safety than expense,” he said. “So although I already had my motorcycle endorsement for 20 years, I took Harley’s Rider’s Edge training course.”)
Our Credit Trends show you how you compare to other Credit Karma members. See where you stand and compare credit scores by state, age and email domain. While these comparisons are fun, they’re also an interesting way to gauge the overall credit health of Credit Karma members.
FICO scores will also vary depending on what purpose the borrower is borrowing. This means that a lender will often use different scores when a borrower is applying for a car loan compared to applying for a credit card. This is because different formulas are being used, such as FICO Auto Score. FICO Auto is an example of a FICO score that surpasses the classic 850 maximum score. FICO Auto possesses scores that range from 250-900 compared to a basic FICO score which ranges from 300-850. In addition to FICO Auto there are other FICO options for certain circumstances that allow a score greater than 850 but they are specialized scores and not a classic FICO score.

Ray, Fist let me say I agree with everything you’ve said so far on this blog… hard for many people to hear and maybe even harder for them to even comprehend, but very true, most people live far beyond their means. That being said please look at the process of the securitization of loans which offloaded this risk of loans from banks to an intermediary which are then grouped and sold to investors as MBS (mortgage backed securities) often backed by further layers of securitization. The boom in this practice of offloading risk from banks is the primary cause of the sub-prime mortgage crises.

Everyones credit is falling. Why? Because the average american lives wayyyy beyond their means. They extend themselves via their credit cards as far as they can moderately hold in front of themselves while BARELY maintaining stability. Hence why when the slightest hickup comes along, credit scores come crashing quickly. We all know we do this, why do we pretend we don’t? The fact that we even use credit cards beyond 5-10% utilization PROVES that we live beyond our means. When bad times happen, you weren’t prepared for it financially. Hence why you use your CC more.
A credit score is a numerical expression based on a level analysis of a person’s credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of an individual. A credit score is primarily based on a credit report information typically sourced from credit bureaus.
The average American doesn’t even reach the “Good” level for their credit score. If you find that you are falling under the average, you don’t need to worry. In about 12 month’s time, you should be able to significantly improve your credit score if you are responsible with your credit. If you are planning to take out a car loan, then you could raise your score during those 12 months, save up for a larger down payment, and in the end get the car you want, pay less in interest, and have it paid off sooner.
The system of credit reports and scores in Canada is very similar to that in the United States and India, with two of the same reporting agencies active in the country: Equifax and TransUnion. (Experian, which entered the Canadian market with the purchase of Northern Credit Bureaus in 2008, announced the closing of its Canadian operations as of April 18, 2009).

  1. It makes sense; after all, where you live affects how much you earn and how expensive your cost of living is. One striking thing is that not just particular states, but entire regions, tend to have similar credit characteristics. Could your geographic location be affecting your credit score?
In 2009, TransUnion representatives testified before the Connecticut legislature about their practice of marketing credit score reports to employers for use in the hiring process. Legislators in at least twelve states introduced bills, and three states have passed laws, to limit the use of credit check during the hiring process.[24]
Lenders, such as banks and credit card companies, use credit scores to evaluate the potential risk posed by lending money to consumers. Widespread use of credit scores has made credit more widely available and less expensive for many consumers.[1][2]
